About
Mental Health America of Northeast Florida (MHA) was founded in 1950 and has been a United Way member agency since 1954. The agency incorporated in the state of Florida in 1970 and has maintained its IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status since 1971. MHA is an affiliate of the national Mental Health America, that has an established record of effective national and grassroots advocacy and achievement. With over 200 affiliates in 41 states, 6,500 affiliate staff and over 10,000 volunteers, MHA affiliates are a powerful voice for healthy communities throughout the nation. In Northeast Florida, we provide direct service to those most in need from a peer-focused perspective. Using their lived experience, our peers work with individuals to help them navigate the healthcare system and in some cases apply for benefits. Our philosophy of individual choice and empowerment rings true in all that we do. We stand as a personal advocate for the individuals that we engage with and through our work they are able to learn the skills they need to develop their natural support systems. Our work does not necessarily happen between 4 walls. We meet people where they are, whether that is at the homeless shelters, on the streets, in the hospitals, in their home, or where ever they might need us. Your support allows us to continue doing this good work and reach more people.

Current projects
FOCUS is a new transition age youth peer center that will serve teens and young adults struggling with mental health challenges. These youth and their parents and supporters will be able to come to our FOCUS peer center and meet with individuals who have experienced living with mental illness and are now living a life of recovery to learn more about their mental illness and managing a life with those challenges. They will receive support and mentoring with skill-building that will help them transition successfully into adulthood. We hope to launch this program in January 2019. Any donation will provide them with the tools needed to make their time with us more pleasant and enjoyable. Your support is instrumental to our success.
