About
The Kerry Rape & Sexual Abuse Centre was opened in 1992 to provide a professional, confidential and free counselling service to female and male survivors of Rape, Sexual Assault and Childhood Sexual Abuse. Our Centre is based in Tralee but we meet people throughout the county, wherever necessary. Services; • Counselling, which includes talking to a counsellor in person or on the phone • Talking and listening if that is all you want • For survivors of sexual violence - rape, sexual assault, child sexual abuse • Support and information for family and friends • We see teenagers and adults • Support with Garda Statements and going to Court • Education and Awareness training for schools and other groups • Research around the needs of people using our service The centre is open Monday – Friday from 9am to 5pm but appointments are available outside of these hours. People can be referred by someone or they can simply ring or call in themselves. Professionally qualified accredited counsellors are available to meet with you to answer any queries or concerns about counselling or any requests for information. You do not have to give your name, we will be happy to talk and to help if we can. You decide whether to report to Gardaí or not. For any queries please ring our Freephone number or call in to the Centre.

The Group is facilitated by two Kerry Rape & Sexual Abuse Centre staff. The main criteria for joining the group is that group members who have previously addressed their issues of childhood sexual abuse through one to one personal counselling either as an ongoing process or in the recent past. The main focus of the support group is to offer a safe and confidential space for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to: meet other survivors - share their own stories and experiences – explore their own needs and aspirations – through provision of a safe and confidential and comfortable setting, supportive sharing, discussion and debate and creative exercises where appropriate.
