About
Founded in 1974, ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services is a voluntary organisation that provides supports to women survivors of domestic abuse and their children across Limerick City and County. ADAPT runs the largest refuge in Ireland, providing emergency accommodation for women and children who have to leave their homes due to domestic abuse. ADAPT provides a wide range of outreach services including: 24-hour helpline, 1-to-1 support, accompaniment to court to seek legal protection, support groups for women who are or have been in an abusive relationship, and educational opportunities for women survivors of domestic abuse. ADAPT also provides supports for children and young people who are or have lived with domestic abuse. These include helpline support, 1-to-1 support, emotional and practical support, group work programmes for young people, educational support and a play therapy service. ADAPT works with young people in the community to promote healthy relationships which are based on equality, dignity and mutual respect. In addition, ADAPT works with community, statutory and voluntary bodies to raise awareness of domestic abuse and to develop the capacity of groups and individuals to recognise domestic abuse and respond appropriately to the needs of women survivors of domestic abuse and their children.
