About
Gili Eco Trust, or Yayasan Ekosistem Gili Indah, is an NGO based on Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia. Mission Our mission is to create a sustainable island. To promote ecotourism and provide a healthy environment for working animals. To restore our coral reefs and to replenish our natural fish populations. To ensure that all waste created on Gili T is reduced to minimum levels and managed and separated properly for recycling projects where materials can be transported off the island. To ensure the livelihoods of the local community is enhanced. Established in 2002 to protect the marine environment in Gili Matra and the three Gili Islands. It then expanded its' activities from marine conservation to waste management and sustainable eco-tourism. In 2004, Gili Eco Trust started the Biorock project. The creation of artificial reefs and restoring the natural habitat of thousands of fish in previously destroyed and overfished areas of the reef. Gili Eco Trust also supports the FMPL, (Front Masyarakat Peduli Lingkugan) the waste collection and management organization on Gili Trawangan. Making daily waste collections to processing recyclable materials and transporting them off the island. Along with these two campaigns, there are many smaller eco-projects which you can explore, such as working horse healthcare clinics, tree planting events, beach cleans, educational workshops for kids, tourists and hospitality staff.

Current projects
Waste Management Working with local NGO - FMPL to gain a zero-waste-to-landfill island with an integrated waste and recycling facility, employing a local workforce to create 'Eco Rangers' to patrol the island in search of environmental disturbances, educating the community about waste separation, plastic reduction and rewarding sustainable businesses. Marine Park Management Gili Trawangan was declared a Marine Protected Area in 2014. With a huge lack of policing and enforcement, much destructive fishing anchoring and damage to the reefs continue. We independently fund further moorings, management, education & enforcement to protect the marine park around Gili Trawangan. Coral Restoration Constant maintenance of our beautiful Biorock marine park, rebuilding coral reefs that were destroyed. We have implemented coral nurseries to house baby corals that can be transplanted to reefs in the future. Tree Planting We want to re-green our island! By teaming up with local initiative Suparman's Treevolution, we have planted more than 5,000 trees across the 3 Gili Islands, and continue to plant many more!
