World ORT is the world’s largest Jewish education and vocational training non-governmental organization with past and present activities in more than 100 countries since 1880. We educate and train people of all ages and backgrounds, and we build economic self-sufficiency for communities. Our network of schools, colleges, universities and programmes benefits some 300,000 people each year in five continents. Funds raised by our supporters are matched by development agencies and national governments to put people on the path to economic independence. Israel and the countries of what was the Soviet Union are currently the focus of World ORT's fundraising... In Israel, we need $5 million to raise the quality of education at the Kfar Hassidim and Hodayot Religious Youth Villages as well as Abir Yaakov High School near Nahariya. Together they serve 1,000 of the country's most vulnerable children. "Most of the students have experienced severe poverty, their challenges intensified by divorce, abuse or other factors. These schools are a last ditch attempt to help teenagers who would otherwise face a future even bleaker than their past,” says World ORT Director General and CEO Shmuel Sisso. With your help we can (1) invest in new technology and curriculum development to keep our science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education at the cutting edge; (2) Provide a safe, secure and comfortable environment and ensure that students from underprivileged backgrounds don’t go hungry or cold; (3) Deliver an education which is so attractive to ambitious Jewish children that, if necessary, they will commute long distances to access it.
