About

We believe in a world in which each person can unfold their potential. To that end we innovate with people who are labeled vulnerable to solve real life problems. Our main platform is called Habibi Works, it is a Fablab set up north of Greece, two minutes away from the Katsikas refugee camp. With all kinds of workshops available (Woodwork, Metalwork, 3D Printing, Laser cutting, Cooking, Painting and Sewing) we offer a stage, people from nearby refugee camps can use to display and foster their many talents. And since our beginnings, we have seen tremendous interest from the community in our space. Be it making a shoe rack in the wood workshop or learning how to use a sewing machine, new projects and endeavors keep emerging every day. And to have a better image of our work, you can find here our facebook page with records of our makers' projects https://www.facebook.com/pg/HabibiWorks/photos/?ref=page_internal And here-after our interview with Make: magazine to get a better grasp of our values and operations: https://makezine.com/2018/05/09/open-world-habibi-works/

Current projects

In the last couple of months, we have started a pilot incubator for our makers. Our approach here has been the same as for our usual projects, we work on eye level with our makers. As such we are not trying to impose solutions, but rather to listen and work alongside our makers in their projects. This has always been a core value for Habibi Works, which has over and over again earned us the trust of the camps communities. So in this project we have been working with our makers not only to learn and make their own items, but also to build their own revenue generating activities. So far people have been responding very well, and have managed already to start a barber shop and a mini grocery store with other ideas on the way.
