Mehr Infos
20 years ago, the Long Beach Public Library Foundation began with a mission to provide support to enhance Long Beach Public Libraries and encourage literacy and education for all members of the community. We carry that vision with us to this day. Our flagship program, the award-winning Family Learning Centers, provides children and their families a safe environment to receive free help with homework, language, reading, computer skills, and job search assistance from specially-trained Learning Guides. The program has provided over 500,000 sessions since its inception in 1999.

Laufende Projekte
The Foundation invests in the latest technology for the Studio in our Main Library and Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library, as well as for the MobileStudio which visits each Library branch throughout the city. The Studio provides thousands of participants with access to MakerBot 3-D printers, tablets, and desktop computers loaded with creative, design, film, and music software, free to use under the guidance of highly talented Studio Guides. Information Center For People With Disabilities: The ICPD has special services, adaptive technologies, and peer assistance for people with special needs, including TumbleBooks, a computer application that reads stories aloud. Summer Reading Program addresses the “summer slide” by engaging more than 5,000 K-12 youth in a challenge to read, ensuring that Long Beach Unified School District students maintain the educational gains they made during the school year. The Library conducts outreach in parks and community events to reach those boys and girls who are not already active library users. Dictionary Days: More than 100,000 third grade students throughout Long Beach have received a free student dictionary from the Library Foundation thanks to the Earl B. and Loraine H. Miller Foundation and Library donors. Surrounding this distribution, the Long Beach Public Library Foundation hosts events at branch libraries designed to engage children in dictionary word games and inspire a love for reading.
