Mehr Infos

Founded in 1977 by Chicagoan Al Booth as the umbrella organization for the Do-It-Yourself Messiah and the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert series, International Music Foundation added Live Music Now! in 1981. Rush Hour Concerts, originally founded by pianist Deborah Sobol in 2000 as a summer concert series at St. James Cathedral, added Make Music Chicago in 2011, a citywide, daylong celebration of everyone’s ability to make music on the summer solstice, June 21, and a professional ensemble residency program in Chicago’s neighborhoods in 2012. The new International Music Foundation will include all of these offerings on its platform.

PIANOS IN THE PARKS FOR MAKE MUSIC CHICAGO 2016 Rush Hour Concerts has produced Make Music Chicago since 2011, initially at the suggestion of the French Consulate. As part of the global Fête de la Musique, Make Music Chicago joins 700 cities around the world – and more than 15 cities in the United States, including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Denver, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. – in this annual celebration on June 21, the longest day of the year. Already beloved by the thousands who have participated in our first 5 years of MMC, this FREE citywide, daylong celebration on June 21 of everyone’s ability to make music. Throughout the day, people of all ages and musical abilities – beginners, amateurs, students, professionals, and marquee artists – gather to play free live music of all genres in public venues across the city. In 2015 we had 200 performances in over 22 zip codes and brought thousands of citizens in contact through joyful music making in public places. We placed pianos in 7 public parks for an entire month. We need funds to refurbish, store and transport pianos for 2016. Please support the Pianos in the Parks 2016 with your gift via helpfreely.org! At a time when Chicagoans face issues of trust and connectivity across boundaries and borders, we need creative place making that brings out the best in all of us TOGETHER! Music is a universal language we can all speak to each other in precious moments in between the daily grind. #pianosinparks
