Childrens Group Link was established in 1979 in order to tackle the problem of social disadvantage within Waterford City and its environs. Our organisation is a voluntary, non-profit group with recognised charitable status. Group Link is a child, teenage and adult development centre. A primary function of our organisation is to provide recreational, educational, counselling and sporting programmes, services and opportunities to marginalised youth. Our headquarters, which is wholly owned by the group, is located at Oak Villa, Military Road in Waterford City. Facilities include large games/assembly hall, I.T room, arts & crafts room, training/meeting & conference facilities, fully equipped catering kitchen & all weather sports pitch with changing rooms. Our core membership, currently 120, consists of children and young people aged 7-25years who come from throughout Waterford City and county by primarily disadvantaged areas. Daily activities include educational assistance, arts & crafts, cooking, sports, drama & music. We also provide targeted programmes dealing with relevant issues including personal development, alcohol & substance misuse, sexual health, positive mental health, bullying, relationships, separation and bereavement. Group Link is very active in the local and wider community through many outreach projects in which we offer to schools, youth & community groups, senior citizens and those with physical & sensory disabilities.
