CARI aims to provide a professional, child centred therapy and counselling service to children, families and groups who have been affected by child sexual abuse (CSA) to support and assist the recovery process. We provide the only specialised helpline in Ireland for anyone with a concern about CSA. Therapy at CARI is provided by trained and experienced psychotherapists and each client is offered an appropriate therapy/ treatment plan to meet their specific needs. CASS is the name given to the advocacy and support service established by CARI in response to the particular needs of child victims of sexual abuse who are called as witnesses in criminal court. CASS supports the children and their parents, carers or guardians who have to go to court. The CARI Helpline (Lo Call 1890 924 567) is a specialised, confidential national service and the overarching resource provided by CARI and is often the first point of contact with the organisation CARI has a team of specially trained Helpline Advisors available from Monday – Friday from 9.30am – 5.30pm. The CARI Helpline advisors will organise face to face appointments for parents and carers where there is an express and immediate need. CARI, a registered charity and has two full time centres in Dublin and Limerick. In addition, CARI has provided outreach therapy sessions in Kerry, Meath, Wicklow and Galway.

CARI is the leading voluntary organisation with a proven track record in providing child centered specialised therapy and support to children, families and groups affected by child sexual abuse (CSA). Our primary aim is to provide a professional, child centred therapy and counselling service to children, families, and groups who have been affected by child sexual abuse. Children will be referred to CARI when they have disclosed sexual abuse (or may be a confidant of the disclosure) and when the disclosure has been investigated by the appropriate authorities. Children will also be referred to CARI if they have witnessed sexual assaults on a child or adult or if they are siblings of the above. CARI responds to and reaches out to those affected by abuse and supports them during the recovering process, endeavouring to ensure that the child sexual abuse is seen as an experience but not a defining event of the child’s life. Through therapy CARI offers children a supportive ally and safe environment and instils hope, trust and confidence allowing these children return to the path of normal development and reach their potential. Alongside this we aim to provide the most up to date education and information service for children, adults and professionals on the dynamics of child sexual abuse, and, moreover, to raise public and political awareness of these issues.
